Federal Cabinet approves Trans Mountain Expansion Project
November 29, 2016
The federal government has approved the proposed Trans Mountain Expansion Project. By Order in Council P.C. 2016-1069 issued today the National Energy Board was directed to issue a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for purposes of s. 54 of the National Energy Board Act. The approval is subject to 157 conditions set out in the report prepared by the N.E.B. and submitted to the Cabinet in May 2016.

While the issuance of the Certificate is a critical step in the regulatory approval process applicable to the project there is another critical step yet to be addressed. This involves detailed route approval. Trans Mountain is now required to prepare and submit a detailed list of properties for acquisition. Affected property owners will have an opportunity to raise objections and request a public hearing after this information becomes available.
