March 7, 2016
According to press releases issued today by the City of Vancouver and Canadian Pacific Railway Limited an agreement has just been reached between the City and the CPR whereby title to the Arbutus railway corridor will be transferred from the CPR to the City. The City will pay $55 million for 42 acres of land that runs approximately nine kilometres from Milton Street in the Marpole neighbourhood to 1st Avenue in the Kitsilano neighbourhood. The City plans to convert the rail corridor to a recreational corridor for walking and cycling. More information about the terms of the agreement and the proposed Arbutus Greenway project is available on the City's website at https://www.vancouver.ca/streets-transportation/arbutus-greenway.aspx.
