The Institute of Law Research and Reform was originally established on November 15, 1967 and it commenced operations on January 1, 1968. The name of the organization was changed to "Alberta Law Reform Institute" in 1989. The Alberta Law Reform Institute is the official law reform agency for the Province of Alberta. It provides independent advice to the Government of Alberta and other agencies to assist in keeping the law and administration of justice up to date.
In March 1973, the Alberta Law Reform Institute released this report into the law of expropriation. The report contained numerous recommendations for law reform and many of the recommendations were incorporated into the Expropriation Act, S.A. 1974, c. 27 adopted in 1974 (now Expropriation Act, R.S.A. 2000, c. E-13).
